I thought the book itself was very text heavy for a K-2 audience and although it had very nice illustrations I don't know if I personally would categorize it as a picture book. The illustrations were not overly complicated on some pages where Rumpelstiltskin was prevalent, but on other pages there were outstanding, complicated and textured illustrations within the grasses, trees, mountains, and other outdoor scenery. This adaptation was done by Christopher Noel, but the illustrations that I probably enjoyed just as much were done by Peter Sis.

Yes, this is the classic Grimm brothers' tale about a miller's daughter who finds herself charged by the king to spin straw into gold. The copy I purchased from my local library's used book store and intend to pass along to my grandchildren was published by Troll Associates. The book is nicely illustrated with color plates, with the story being the one familiar to any reader of Grimm's Fairytales. I think my grandchildren will enjoy both the story and the illustrations.

This edition was okay. The drawings were cool. The added detail of how “shrewd” the miller’s daughter is didn’t get expanded on. So, meh.
