At first I tried to read this like a tour book, cover to cover in sequential order like any good 5th grader. After I completed it, muddling through each chapter; I realized that I had gone about it all wrong. As a quick and dirty travel guide to specific places in Arizona--this book excelled. I compared it to the Fodor's Arizona guide after the fact, and that was a dry dry read--often leaving out the insignificant towns and local colorful history this book excelled at. I HATED the Fodor's so much I left it with my friend I was visiting--I think it was perfect for planning a trip but not great about learning where you were going. I liked this book so much (and retained so much of the aforementioned useless information) that I'm hoping to find a good Portland version soon. This one is on my permanent shelf!

In the end, we did what we wanted anyway and followed either local advice, googlemaps, or wandered merrily. Made for light hotel browsing with enticing sections to read aloud for the adventure group.

This travel book is very frustrating and gives you little to nothing on smaller cities. I would not recommend and would say go for the Moon Book version of Arizona if you’re looking for a more comprehensive explaining of what you can do in areas. Every time I look up a city in this book I get less than a full page on the city and it doesn’t really tell you what attractions (natural or man-made) is near or around said area. Not a good travel book

I read this before travelling to Arizona, and I found it most useful for background information regarding the history and culture of the area. Beautiful photos and good insight into local customs. However, I did not rely on this for the essentials of my trip, which I found much better in Frommers and Lonely Planet.

This was a really great guide to sightseeing in Arizona. Much better than any other guidebook I looked at. This book reads like you have a friend living in Arizona who is making personal recommendations to you. Liked it a lot.

This is a great reference for road trips. Just enough information, without being overly boring.
