In case you were wondering why I haven’t read anything in a couple of months, it’s because I had been reading this beast! She helped me pass tho so I’m not complaining

Yes, I am adding this textbook to count toward my 2021 reading challenge. Yes, it is a textbook and I read all 600 pages. Twas a good basic review of all things SLP though I noticed several typos and bit of incorrect information--nothing major, but was slightly disappointed given the price of it. We'll see if it helps me this Friday :-)

As a previous reviewer wrote- yes I am legitimately marking this book because it I did in fact, read it. I just took (and passed) the praxis, so I would say the book served it’s purpose. I would recommend buying it new so that you have the online practice tests which simulate praxis questions but definitely are not exact. That being said, if you can answer at least 75% of the questions at the end of each chapter/the online tests correctly, I would say you have a pretty decent shot of passing the praxis. I also will be keeping my copy because it is a great synopsis of information needed in the field. Good luck test takers!

Good resource for reviewing for the Praxis, although the review questions are not structured like Praxis questions. This, combined with other resources like online practice tests, helped me feel prepared for the Praxis!

After studying for 10 solid days, I took the exam and passed! I used this book & the free ETS practice questions to study for my test. I did not pay for any other membership/test prep materials. This book was more than enough and I highly highly recommend getting this book (in a brand new condition).

Upon purchasing this book, you will receive a code that gives you access to an online tool for a duration of one year. This online resource provides daily practice questions as well as practice tests. Within the physical book, you will also find practice questions and quizzes corresponding to each chapter, which I found to be beneficial. The book is extremely helpful and includes a lot of really good information and explanations. However, I don't like the practice tests associated with it. The questions seem to not include all the pertinent information necessary to answer the question and seems to encompass the author's beliefs, which sometimes can differ from what is taught at different schools (i.e. the use of ASL as unaided communication vs being considered a different language). Also, it’s 2021 (book was published in 2019) and we’re still using mental r*t*rdarion and transsexual? Come on now.

Yes, I am counting this toward my reading goal. It is a huge and torturous 670 pg book covering the last six years of my education.

This gets two stars because I passed, but I don’t want to look at it again. I read every page at least twice so this textbook deserves to be counted toward my goal for books this year. Very cutie!

This book was useful, but the formatting was not as nice as previous editions. My classmates purchased the second edition, which was written in bullet point formatting with graphics corresponding to the text on the same page. This version is in paragraph form and was not easy to pull the main points out of the text when skimming chapters. Additionally, terms used in the book were not the same terms used on the ETS test. The practice tests were really discouraging that I bought with this course. My classmates and I did not pass the practice tests, but were able to score well and pass the Praxis. Not sure if that is done intentionally (with the way it's scored) or unintentionally, but just a heads up. Don't be discouraged and learn from wrong answers if you do purchase this text and practice tests.

I don't usually review textbooks, but I actually read the entirety of this one (can't say that for all of my grad school books!). If you're studying for the speech-language pathology PRAXIS, it's quite useful. The chapters on articulation and child developmental norms probably helped me the most on the test.

As for cons - the book only touches on swallowing disorders, which made up a significant portion of the test; some of the practice test answers were incorrect; and the authors completely messed up transgender pronouns in one practice test. Um, if you're going to talk about transgender voice therapy, maybe at least get the basics correct? Hopefully they fixed these errors in subsequent editions...

So, read this book, take the ETS practice tests, and you'll be fine!

Extremely useful resource! I wish I had it BEFORE I began grad school instead of purchasing it merely as a study guide for the PRAXIS. I continue to use it as a reference today.

This book is a great resource for any graduate student in speech language pathology. I bought it to study for the praxis and comps but actually wish I would have had it sooner in my graduate career!
