Gabby Wells has spent her entire eighteen years living atop a mountain with her father. After she buries him, she knows her only option is to travel down the mountain to live with her Aunt Eunice. She finds a baby on her way down, whose parents had obviously died tragically. With the child, she finds shelter from a blizzard in a cabin on the side of the mountain. Brandon Taylor is on a mission for the sheriff in Trace Hollow, checking on the homesteaders around the area. When a sudden storm comes up, he has to take shelter in his family’s hunting cabin, on the side of the mountain. When he finds a beautiful young lady, a stranger to him, in the cabin along with her son, he tells himself repeatedly he can’t marry her. When they reach her aunt’s house, and the other men come sniffing around her, his feelings become more apparent to him. Can he find the courage to marry the beautiful Gabby? Or will he let her be married off to one of the other young men in town?
I loved this story! Short enough to read in one sitting. But long enough to really capture the essence of not only the characters, but the town of Trace Hollow. The author gives us a little glimpse into other characters lives. I look forward to re-visiting the town! I read just enough about the towns people that make me want to know more! I can't wait for more stories set in Trace Hollow. I think this is a very good book, especially for a new author. I didn't want to put my Kindle down once I started reading about Gabby, Brandon and of course little Adam!
A mountain girl comes into town since her pa died just before Christmas. Enroute she finds an accident scene with only the baby surviving. Add a storm and the arrival of the deputy for the beginning of a very cute story. This is not a MOB story but it is written almost the same way. It's an enjoyable break to read and suitable for preteens.
I enjoyed Gabby and Brandon's story. I laughed and I smiled. C.J. Samuels writing was light and easy and brought forth the spirit of Christmas, sacrifice and love. A must read!
As far as novella's go. I wasn't exactly enjoying this one. It started off pretty good. We meet Gabby as she's on her way to Trace Hollow to find her Aunt. Her Pa has passed after an illness and she promised him she wouldn't stay in their shack. It was too dangerous for a woman alone. On her trek it starts snowing and she happens upon some tracks. A carriage had gone over the edge with no survivors. She does notice a little baby on the side of the road. Seeking shelter she finds a cabin belonging to deputy Brendon.
It's all pretty much downhill from there. I think it was all a bit too rushed and the way they talked to each other felt all wrong and odd. Not only that but once we hit the town it was practically all about God and His will and His this and His that. I realize there are plenty of people out there who would enjoy this sort of thing. I also realize that in the time period they're in there would be more church and God but this felt like too much to me. I've just read better books that were able to get the same feelings across with much less.
Way too rushed for me. Not my cup of tea. There was definitely no romance, no love, no feelings. Just town folk running around and the characters just telling us they're in love does not make a romance. Plus, does anyone care that there's a carriage with people in it somewhere off the road just.... there.
Where the check is the last chapter of this book!? I PAID for this book...ALL of it! I was so excited when this book was recommended to me...and very unhappy when I found I had to work so hard at reading it. Doesn't anyone proofread or spell-check anymore? There are so many fill-in-the-blanks and and double-phrases in this book...absolutely no pleasure in reading this book. If you ever decide to edit and re-publish this book I would very much like to read it, with PLEASURE this time. I honestly think I should get a refund since I didn't get the entire book, but doubt very much that will happen..
In this short novella we meet Gabby, who is headed to town following the death of her father. Along the way, she finds a young toddler who survived a terrible carriage accident. When a storm traps Gabby in a remote cabin, she comes to love the child and wonders if she could raise him herself. But a single woman in the old west had an uphill battle in such matters and Gabby considers that she needs to marry. Brandon, scouting the area, also finds himself in the cabin with the young woman and a child he mistakes to be her own. His attachment to them is unwelcome since he's not looking to get tied down. This is a sweet Christmas story with fun secondary characters. I really enjoyed it!
Gabby is ready to start a new life in Trace Hollow when she comes across a wagon accident. The only survivor is a young toddler that she takes in as her own. As a blizzard hits, Gabby finds shelter from the storm.
Deputy Brandon Taylor knows he won't make it back to town before the storm hits. He heads to his family's hunting cabin. What he finds there will change his life's plan forever.
This is a sweet, heart-warming story about love and accepting what God sends our way.
Young couple have a surprise wedding planec by their town.
A young woman leaves her cabin in the mountains for her Aunt's house in town after her father passes. She gets stuck in a blizzard and has to find shelter. A young deputy is out in the snow also and they find a cabin about the same time. They face alot of problems before they get to town and their wedding. They have already surprise for the town. I highly recommend it to you.
Gabby finds a baby on her way to Trace Hollow. Brandon finds them in an isolated cabin waiting out a winter storm. Can Gabby and Brandon become a family in time for Christmas, and give Adam a new home? I enjoyed this story and I think you will enjoy it too.
This was a wonderfully romantic and sweet take about two people who are not looking for love, finding it anyway. Gabby and Brandon are great people and deserve all the love they have for each other.
I just discovered this author and I'm in love with her writing. Trace Hollow is a beautiful town where the women make sure the outcome of any situation is the correct one. I laughed and like the way Brandon and Gabby fell in love.
I Sure Hope There Is More To This Wonderful Story. This Author Can Really Write A Good Story . But Now I Want To Know More Of These People And There Love's Shirley Ketcham
