I was obsessed with this oversize book as a kid and borrowed it from the library multiple times. I don't know why I liked it so much. I certainly had no delusions that I would be a model some day. I guess I thought Lisanne was beautiful and had an exciting life. I did use this book to come up with scenarios for many hours of Barbie play.
I'm not sure who the publishers intended this book for...I guess anyone who could afford to pay its price.
I remember the book glamorized modeling, giving a soft-focused, romantic vision of the job with no mention of eating disorders or sexual harassment.
I remembered this book the other day while searching for other books. I had to do some book hunting to find it, but I found it on my own, without asking any groups for help.
I found this book on a clearance table when I was a teenager. I didn't buy it when it first came out, probably more like around 1984 or so. I'm glad it was on the clearance table because I couldn't have afforded to pay full price with my teenaged allowance. I too was obsessed with this book. I read it multiple times from cover to cover. I loved the story and how it was told. I really wanted to model myself, but alas, I didn't grow tall enough. In fact, I loved this book so much as a kid that I still have it.
My mother bought this book for me when it first came out (1979). I have fond memories of my dreams of becoming a professional model when I was young. It was a realistic view into the "job". It really opened my eyes to see that modeling was a lot more than glamour and fame. Betsy Cameron's photography was superb, as usual. What I remember most about this book was that Lisanne Falk was like every girl our age, so it was easy and exciting to follow along.
