Rate this book
Felicia and Robin are at Richmond Palace for Robin's investiture as a knight for services to the crown. While awaiting the king's pleasure, Felicia and Robin mix with the artists in residence waiting to paint their patrons in honour of their investiture. Among the assembled artists are a couple of old friends, and Felicia enlists their aid when investigating some abuses of one of the apprentices. Felicia and Robin are rudely awakened by one of Wolsey's agents, to investigate when one of the artists is murdered in his chamber. Felicia and Robin must try to find a motive, and sift through those proposed by others, including a potential political motive around the artist's current work. A lover's tiff is proposed by another artist, and when a certain item is missing, theft might be the simplest motive of all As the pair struggle with the murderous puzzle the court has its own amusements on offer; a Corpus Christi play, and jousting and tennis, in both of which Robin is persuaded to pit his luck against Henry! I was born in the usual manner and grew up, but only to 5'4". I planned to be a civil engineer or a sports coach or a forensic scientist until I got married, but I got married first and caught a chronic illness shortly thereafter, so I started painting and writing to stop myself going stir crazy. I write what I like reading. Life's too short to take it too seriously, and I'm here to have fun with my writing as with everything else.
I do like writing series because I gain a fondness for my characters and want to pursue their adventures further. I always wanted to do this with books that I read, which is why perhaps my first serious forays into writing were through fanfiction, even though it wasn't called that back before the Internet when I started writing it!.

Every single one of the books in this wonderful series are meticulously researched. Waldock not only tells a good mystery, but fills her books with details that bring out the sense of the period, whether its dates tied to the Catholic religious calendar, or information about spices, dyes, shipping and fifteenth-century art. Felicia and Robin are, moreover, an engaging couple, whose banter helps the story along. Pick up a Felicia and Robin mystery and you won't be sorry--and you will be hooked!

The colour of murder

This is interesting.....even some information about how soap was made and how people did laundry. Also interesting about the early years of the reign of Henry VIII.....We're used to thinking of him as the grossly obese, wife-murdering tyrant.....we tend to forget that he came to the throne as a handsome young man, and there were high hopes for his reign.....he was a talented musician as well.
