Kerstin Kretschmar is haunted by the remnants of her past, and she discovers that it is hard to let go of what has been and what never will be again. When she visits a shrink, he advises her to write about it in order to release her emotions. As she writes down her problems, the story of her past unravels with it along with her thoughts, her secrets, and her guilty conscience. It is the summer of 1941, and her younger sister, Erin, is taken away. Kerstin makes a spur-of-the-moment decision that will affect and change her life forever.

I think this book was absolutely profound. You could imagine being in the children’s position, just very imaginative and historically accurate writing

Edit: I read that the author was 14? Bravo!
