Bill Christenberry is a true Southern gentleman and a great artist who doesn't separate what he does from what he thinks and feels, and that is a lot. His photographs are often sublime, but Christenberry himself would not say so.
Perhaps the definitive single volume of William Christenberry photographs. It's not all here -- and some personal favorites are left out -- but what's here is printed beautifully. You get to see the 8x10s in all their large format glory, while the little Brownie shots are scaled down proportionately. A lovely book, but I think subsequent volumes have improved upon it by showcasing the full series of annual photographs dedicated to the most significant Hale Co. sites: the Palmist building, the green warehouse, the BBQ Inn, the Coleman Cafe, etc.
