TRAPPED AT SEA

In an instant Kathryn Brooks's idyllic transatlantic cruise turns to terror. It's hard to believe someone has it out for her, yet chandeliers don't explode on their own—and her best friend has gone missing. But Secret Service agent Sam West vows to protect her as every corridor poses a threat and any stranger may be an assailant. With the ship's security providing little assistance, Kathryn puts her trust in Sam. Yet losing her own life is no longer her only fear. As she and Sam strive to stay a step ahead of the enemy, Kathryn worries that by caring for Sam…she's put a target on his back, as well.

Sara K. Parker’s second book in the Mountain Cover romantic suspense series is pulse-pounding at times, but somewhat predictable. Kathryn Brooks is a concert pianist who decides to take a job on a cruise ship when her father dies, and her childhood home burns down. However, this cruise turns out to be anything but ordinary. A chandelier above her explodes and her best friend is missing. Secret Service agent Sam West works to protect her and keep an eye on his feisty grandmother. The ship’s security can’t seem to provide much assistance.

Kathryn and Sam are reasonably well-developed characters and so is his grandmother, Alice. While there is plenty of danger and suspense, nothing distinguished it from other novels. The romance happens too quickly for me, and the captain seemed too cavalier about the threats to Kathryn.

Overall, this book was suspenseful, fast-paced, and enjoyable.

Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way. Publication date was January 1, 2015.

Very good read! Lots of action throughout the story and many twists and turns to keep you reading well into the night.
Pianist Kathryn Brooks has agreed to take a gig aboard a cruise ship after her dad had passed and her childhood home burned down. Strange things start to happen to Kathryn’s things during the cruise; such as her stuff being messed with, her friend disappearing and the worst a chandelier almost crushes her. But thanks to Sam West Secret Service Agent she lives to see another day.
Sam West knows immediately that the chandelier incident was no accident and he sets out to figure who’s responsible. Can Sam figure out who is behind the crimes before time runs out for Kathryn ?

What an awesome debut novel! Love the location -- a cruise ship really adds to the suspense...and the romance. And talk about not being able to get away from the danger! Oy! This one will keep you on tenterhooks as Kathryn and Sam try to figure out what's going on. Loved the pacing -- how both the suspense and romance steadily build to a riveting conclusion. This is a get-comfy-and-read-in-one-sitting kind of book because you won't want to stop until you figure everything out. Awesome, awesome, awesome read!

Great first book! Loved the characters, especially grandma! Loved the unique setting. I did guess certain plot twists and I also thought the way the climax was written was a little clunky? I could tell this is a first book in the big "saving the girl" scene but really nothing to detract from the enjoyment of the book. I look forward to many more and hopefully one about her friend! That was left a little bit hanging

In the middle of an ocean on a cruise ship and no where to go to get away from the danger. This was a well written, fast paced suspense book. I liked the characters and how well they blended together. The romance was building throughout the book and was quite believable. A good book to read in 'one setting'.

Undercurrent is an exciting tale of loss and love. I had a quiet afternoon and it was the perfect choice, romance and danger on shipboard was just what I needed. My first book by Sara K. Parker but hopefully not the last.

Received this book from the Good Reads Give Away.

Loved it! It's been a long time since I've read a Harlequin Romance Novel and this one certainly fit the bill.

Sam and Kathryn were a great match. The setting is ideal, almost like The Love Boat with suspense and (of course) the perfect love match.

Read this book in one sitting, didn't want to put it down, and it was a very easy read. Just wanted to find out what happened to Kathryn's friend and who was behind the misdeeds. Really loved Sam's Grandmother!

Definitely recommend.

Trouble seems to be following Kathryn around this cruise ship.

But why?

What does she supposedly know?

And how do you avoid trouble when your cruise ship is in the middle of the ocean, miles from anywhere?

Fortunately, handsome passenger Samuel West (who's on holiday, but happens also to be with the Secret Service) is around to help out and play bodyguard when danger strikes. (His grandmother and her friends are lovely allies too!)

A great faith-filled suspense set on a cruise ship in the South Atlantic seas.

This was a fantastic mystery! The characters hooked me from the get go and the mystery kept me wondering through most of the book. Hope we see some of the other characters in future books. I will definitely be reading more of Sarah's books in the future!

Loved the story, loved the characters, didn't like the audiobook narrator. It was AI narrated, and the voice would change for the male and female voices, but sometimes they'd be opposite of what should have been (female voice for man and visa versa). Also the main character is Kat, but the AI would sometimes, but not always, pronounce it Kot. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was still able to decipher who was who and enjoy the story. It was a great book, so I gave it 5 stars.
