Sugar Sails: Last Island of Happiness, Castro's Cuba

Rate this book
There is a place where you can actually step back in time by 100 years. It is not a museum but a living country where time has stood still. Or, to be more accurate, where time has moved backward. This outstanding accomplishment has been created by a revolutionary system that was going to make all people happy and equal. It is communist Cuba, the second-last example of a system that was to conquer the world, but unfortunately collapsed before happiness happened.
Four sailors were curious as to what Cuba is like, while Fidel Castro is still alive. Could we actually enter communist Cuba?
We were a sailing yacht without clearance, intruding into Cuban waters, carrying an American flag. We were watched, we could feel it. Ever since the Bay of Pigs, the Cubans were neurotic about another invasion. Castro himself had “invaded” Cuba with 49 men in a 50 foot boat. And so they were suspicious of any boat, ship or plane approaching their coast. Would they dare open fire on us and destroy the intruder? Would they warn us? Wouldn’t they stop us or at least respond to our calls?
