From the front flap of this 104 page "This book is a practical guide for living the Christian life. The title is taken from Isaiah 53:6. From God's perspective we are all like sheep. Therefore we can understand ourselves through a study of the characteristics of sheep. Isaiah 53:6 states the nature of human nature, the reason for man's problems and gives us the solution. Mary Glynn Peeples is not afraid to be transparent and tell you about her mistakes. As a popular conference speaker, she has for many years, taught the contents of this book. The following comments are frequently offered by those who have Practical; Makes sense; Sounds like you have been looking in my window; Identifies my problems; Humorous; Honest; Real; and Workable solutions."
If you’ve ever been guilty of drinking to excess, smoking, screaming at your children, or always wanting your own way this is the book for you. Mary Glynn Peeples discusses the human experience by comparing us to sheep. Using practical stories from her own life she writes in an easy to read authentic way. I love it that she bares all her weaknesses, even the fact that she dislikes some people simply because of the way they wear their hair or laugh. She’s never judgmental but she expertly uses Bible verses to illustrate that, “All we like sheep have gone astray,” and we all need the guidance of the best shepherd, Jesus Christ, in order to have an abundant life.
Easy to read and understand. Very simple explanation but profound at the same time. I love how the book is structured - explaining something about sheep, what shepherds do about it, how we are like sheep in that thing, and what our shepherd does about it using scripture. Some of the stories are dated, but still relevant.
Really enjoyed re-reading this after (probably) 30 years. Purchased this at a conference where the author spoke. This sweet little book is easy to read in a day. Contains great insights for non- or new believers as well as for those who have followed The Shepherd for years. I liked it a lot.
A simple, sweet book which explores the attributes of sheep and compares them to humans. Why? Because Jesus did. Her personal examples were relatable and on target but not overly frequent nor intrusive. Through the helplessness of sheep and their other attributes, the author then shows why once we are in the faith, we need a Shepherd.
Jesus compares us children to sheep. The author explains in wonderful detail how and why that is true. It is an extremely well written book that helps us understand how helpless we truly are as Believers.
