I had to read this for school but since I ended up reading it all between two classes, I'm counting it towards my annual reading goal. Because why not.
Also, my star rating might be biased because I was forced to read this, i.e. I didn't read this of my own accord and I had homework associated with it, so of course I didn't like it a ton. Yeeeep.
This is an excellent and such a well-written book and easy to understand about how to help our English Language Learners and to be able to support them in their language learning. The author's Suzanne F. Peregoy and Owen F. Boyle have written a very readable book with some wonderful suggetions about how teachers can support their English language learners. So many education books are so therotical and difficulty to understand. This book is full of so many strategies and examples. Great pictures and cartoons and all of these things helped me to understand the messages that the authors have wanted us to learn from their book. Excellent book! I would highly recommend this book if you are interested in learning more about teaching English language learners.
Read this textbook front to back for my Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education graduate class. Found the teaching strategies useful and even learned a few new ones I was not familiar with.
This was my textbook for my ESL teaching methods class this semester. I found the book to be practical and realistic in its recommendations. I also think this would be an excellent resource or review guide for student teachers taking the Praxis: Principles of Teaching and Learning test to become certified teachers.
It was very basic information, but I suppose it would have been more helpful if I hadn't already taken ESL courses. Also, I just really didn't want to be taking classes right now, which may have affected my attitude toward the book. At least I got through it!
For beginning teachers I think this could be a great resource. For seasoned teachers I felt that we know all this already! There were some useful things in here but all in all I felt that this book was best suited for those entering the profession.
