‘Not to come down ‘til the Stars Fall!’

The Wall separating the Big House from the cottage must stay; it’s a clause in the Last Will and Testament of the woman that died there. In the spring of 1897 newly-widowed Julianna Dryden, and her little boy, Matty, move in. Beautiful Ju-ju with bright copper hair and amber eyes has mildly scandalous secrets which though poor as the proverbial church mouse mean trips to London in costly furs and snakeskin boots- to Bloomsbury, to the studio of the American artist, John Singer Sargent, and the home of the notorious Lady Evelyn Carrington, Society hostess and intimate of Bertie, Prince of Wales.
The cottage, or the N &N, the Needed and Necessary, as it is known, has secrets of its own, dark secrets, jagged and sharp like broken Meissen china, that but for a Wolf’s passionate howl will reach out to wound Julianna.

A Charming Story

A story of a beautiful widow in the late 19th century - a time when women don't have the right to vote let alone attempt to run a business of their own. Title and wealth hold more importance than honesty and hard work. A titled lady can have affairs and the world will draw a blind eye - whereas a poorer woman is regarded with contempt. An intriguing story which pulls at the heart strings.

I loved the story but was appallled at the editing. There were words missing, fullstops missing, a lack of commas where there should be commas and some sentences that, as a result of the above, just didn’t make sense. What a shame and I suggest that the author spends a bit of money and gets a decent proofreader on the case. The book was a disappointment solely because of these faults.

"This is the sort of book that cheers you. Our heroine is so engaging but not a pushover and you root for her all the way "

Brilliant

A different genre to the ones I usually read. However I was absolutely riveted. It holds you attention with every word and you can't wait to read on, chapter after chapter. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Another beautiful story by Ms.Hamilton! One of my favorites. Set in the late Victorian/Edwardian era this story captures the mood and feel of the times. Yet, this is by no means an "old-fashioned" story! The characters are complex with a full range of emotions and backgrounds. Each character has his/her own unique vulnerabilities, making the interactions between them poignant and touching. As with all of Ms.Hamilton's books, there is a thread of spirituality and the mystical. Congratulations on another exceptional book, elegantly written!
