You and God – together – can have victory in your struggle with exercise, nutrition, sleep and healthy living … spiritual health too. Scripture primarily focuses on the soul, not the body. God’s wisdom, strength, and guidance, however, extend into every facet of our lives. God cares about your fitness because your body is “the temple of the Holy Spirit.” In the Body Tithe Devotional, personal trainer and author Matthew Pryor directs you on a 90-day journey to build up your physical and spiritual strength. You will learn new habits and master new weapons to protect yourself for the rest of your life. Matthew Pryor applies Scripture about God’s character, His provisions, and His promises to the most common troubles faced by those in the battle for fitness. The Body Tithe Devotional offers victory, regardless of your physical results. Each week’s unique topic leads you down new paths toward your goals. New insights into God’s Word will guide you toward fitness, a healthy lifestyle, and into a deeper, more safe relationship with your Heavenly Father. “Fitness and healthy living is foremost a heart issue, and God cares about all matters of the heart. He cares so much, in fact, that He sent the Holy Spirit to help you live a life that brings Him glory in all things. ‘All things’ includes the health battles you are fighting.” Don’t be discouraged by past defeats. Use Matthew Pryor’s Body Tithe Devotional in your battle plan for victory over physical and spiritual fitness!
A few nuggets of wisdom. But it’s super hard to get past his sexism, complementarianism, and conservative views on Christianity. I read some thinly veiled prosperity gospel and fat shaming, too.
Matthew Pryor's "The Body Tithe" is an outstanding resource that inspires and empowers readers to transform their health and well-being. From the moment I began reading, I was captivated by the book's straightforward and motivational tone, which makes the journey toward better health feel both achievable and rewarding.
The author has done a remarkable job of breaking down complex health concepts into practical, easy-to-understand advice. Each chapter is filled with actionable steps and personal anecdotes that make the content relatable and inspiring. Pryor’s emphasis on self-discipline and commitment is both encouraging and empowering, providing readers with the tools they need to take control of their health.
What really sets this book apart is how easy it is to read. Pryor has a knack for communicating complex ideas with simplicity and clarity, making "The Body Tithe" accessible to readers of all backgrounds. The book’s structure is well-organized, allowing readers to easily navigate through topics and revisit sections as needed.
Overall, "The Body Tithe" is a fantastic guide for anyone looking to make lasting improvements to their health. Whether you’re just starting your wellness journey or looking to refine your existing routine, this book will surely inspire and motivate you to become the best version of yourself. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a healthier, more fulfilling lifestyle.
I never would have picked this book up on my own, so I’m super thankful for my friend who asked me to join her in reading it! I’m honestly still not sure exactly why it’s called the body tithe. There’s nothing about giving 10% of your time to focusing on fitness or anything like that. So, just ignore that title and pick up this book!
I love that this devotional was focused more on the spiritual aspect than the physical. There isn’t a specific exercise or nutrition routine to follow. You can do what works best for you. What this devotional did for me that no other fitness devotional I’ve picked up to date has been able to, is to help me have the proper perspective, a better mindset where my fitness is concerned. In the past I’ve had a difficult time seeing trying to get in shape in a spiritual light. So, when I didn’t see physical results I’d just throw in the towel, say this isn’t working, and quit. This devotional has helped me view my fitness journey as a way to honor God with my body, be a good steward of the body he’s given me, and continue to make good choices even when I don’t see the physical results I’d like because those physical results are not the ultimate goal.
I love the spiritual exercises he introduces and has you practice each week. This is a great tool to help you grow spiritually, keep your focus on the Lord, and also get your body in shape along the way.
Great devotion that goes well beyond fitness. I was surprised by the depth of the content. It wasn’t just feel good cliches. It was full of encouragement and also challenged my thinking. I will most likely re-read this one again!
We invite God into so much of our daily life but focus on the externals. It's a unique reminder to be reminded that God has designed our bodies to function and perform for His good.
