This town is full of wonderful people, high excitement, and a distinguishing characteristic for each major character who appears. The identifying traits stick through all the books in the series. The author must have had great fun concocting the alliterative polyphonic vocabulary for Kate, or the unconnected babble of Emmy-Lou, heroines in other books of the series who continue to appear. We learn more and more about the town and her people in each book, and each re-visit is more and more fun. This book has four main characters, and one of them is Slowpoke, the horse. Tensions come from all sorts of personal relationships, and the horse is a marvelous player. I would recommend this book and the whole series to any who enjoy clean, exciting western historical fiction.
The love story of Coral and Roy. After her mother-in-law kill her husband, Coral when to live with Beryl Waters. After a while Coral and her son, Willie movie to Come-By-Chance to find a husband. On first sight Ray and Coral find love but for one problem. She hated horses and Roy and Willie love them. Will they find happiness? Great story.
This is my favorite of all the come by chance mail order brides books. I loved the storyline I loved the characters and who can't not love a horse name Jake slowpoke who was nominated for mayor of their town. Great story.
First let me say that I really disliked the first book in this series. But each book has gotten better. I am enjoying them now. This book has outlaws and evil men. Coral’s first husband was evil. They had a little boy, Willie. After hubby’s death, she and her son, spends some time with Beryl (who we has meet in a previous book). Coral will not let her son anywhere near horses. She believes when men are around horses, the worst comes out of them. Of course, Willy adores “horsies”. So what happens when they come to Come-by- Chance. What happens when an evil outlaw also comes to town. Enjoyed this book. On to the next one.
