One one hand I often think Vermonters carry our “we are the best” frame of reference a bit too far. One the other hand, there is this book—a well documented set of sketches of Vermonters—bred or transplanted to the Green Mountain State—and their contributions as well as a most wonderful time line. Some of the folks shared are well known—like Ethan Allen and John Dewey while other's contributions—like Thomas Davenport and Eliza Healy— have been rightfully resurrected.
And, as author Don Peabody points out, “as our gift-givers came down off their pedestal…awe at their accomplishments grew.” (p247). A good read. Recommended.
