A number of scholars of interwar French culture have identified a significant turning point in the years between 1928 and 1934. In this study, Shorley examines French novels of that period in order to understand how they reflect outward crises as they reveal their own internal changes. Coverage includes works by Malraux and Queneau (among others), as well as translations into French of American detective fiction. Shorley teaches French at Queen's U. in Belfast.
