In this introductory non-fiction book about police officers Julie Murray and Abdo Kids do a great job of describing their importance in the community and familiarizing young students with basic non-fiction text features. There was no mention of guns, but the book did include a photograph of a tool belt that had a gun clearly displayed. Crisp photographs depict police officers in many roles. Decent use of a diverse group of people as police officers. Includes a table of contents, bold words, and a picture glossary of terms and tools used. A wonderful starter series of community helpers for any primary collection.

This book introduces the police officer and his job to the reader. It covers the responsibilities and duties of the police officer in a simple concise manner.
Simple text, large print and colorful photographs present a concise description of the police officer’s job. Full page photos picture present day autos and the equipment that the police use in their jobs. Both male and female officers are pictured in a wide range of duties. A simple glossary and index add to the worth of the book. A web link to ABDO kids will allow further exploration via the internet. This is one of series of six books that describe community jobs very well. Recommended for grade Kindergarten through 2.
