Initial: I haven't read any super hero books. I like Batman and Robin.
Pro's: I like the illustrations, they are reminiscent of the 2000's Batman. This is a good book for Onomatopoeia practice, those words are bold and are in a different font and color so they are easy to spot.
Con's: It felt episodic.
Notes: the chapters aren't very long. there are 5 chapters in total. reads a bit like a tv show. there's character info about the Joker as well as discussion questions, writing prompts, and a glossary.
Post: This was a nice book! It has a lot of elements that could be used in the classroom such as discussion questions, writing prompts, a glossary, and Onomatopoeia practice. The illustrations were nice too, they felt nostalgic with a 2000's Batman vibe. The story itself felt a bit episodic, but because its a story about a superhero and there is a whole collection of these books it didn't bother me too much.
Another written Batman piece featuring the Joker and with again as this series does well, helpful pointers to difficult words for young readers and some questions to consider at the end for discussion either by a class or perhaps with a parent. The story is fairly standard but after all it is about a geezer that goes around dressed as a giant bat battling against another geezer who is dressed in purple with weird face make up like some sort of clown, so you know what do you want War and Peace? Anyway entertaining and helpful for young readers.
Reluctant readers, Batman fans, and casual readers will be engaged by the graphic, comic-book style illustrations and fast-paced action-packed plot. While the story is thin and predictable, the familiar characters and dialogue will appeal to young readers looking for light entertainment.
