Vampires of Nirvana #1

Never Kiss Me Goodbye

Kari Ransom's career as a journalist is on a stellar trajectory. She's making a name for herself by exposing some heavy hitters in the political arena for serious crimes and shady dealings. But that rise to the top is cut short when she's gruesomely murdered by a professional killer, who leaves very few clues behind for the authorities to follow. Her sister Kristen knows there is something more going on under the surface, and to find the culprits, she enlists the help of homicide detective Slade Jericho. Kristen senses there is more to Slade than he is letting on. Slade has seen his share of murders in his years on the Phoenix police force. And his gut's telling him that Kristen is in serious danger from the same heartless killers who executed Kari. He calls in the best to help him keep Kristen alive, and when Chase McKinnon, from the extraordinary McKinnon clan, steps in to lead the security detail, things start to get really dicey. Will Chase's past work for or against them as that past leads them straight into the vampire collective? Will Slade and Kristen find the killers before they are both murdered for the information now in her possession? If they can unravel this twisted web of lies, love, and deception, they will be free to give in to fate and see how perfect they are for each other even against the odds. This paranormal romance will keep you on the edge of your seat, rooting for the good guys and wondering what's going to happen next.

Though it started off slow and repetitive, once the story got going, it was hard to put down. The constant twists, action, and sexual tension between the main characters kept me on my toes. And that ending was certainly not what I expected. Can't wait to read the next installment!

Drama, intensity, suspense, mystery, intrigue, romance, CLIFFHANGER. . .

This was well written. Deep independent characters. Intriguing plot line. And a very intelligent female lead, Kristen, that didn't back down. She kept pushing forward no matter what was put in her path. I love the depth of the intrigue. I loved that there was something more around the corner. I loved that I wanted more by the end. Kristen worked well with Slade the detective and he felt there was more there than they were seeing. He had enough knowledge to know that he needed help and this was nothing to tackle alone. In comes Chase.

I don't want to give things away but with the introduction of the three characters in the blurb I was almost expecting certain things to happen. I was very happy with what I did get. I love contemporary feel with a hint of paranormal through in. This was a read that wrapped around you and pulled you on the journey.

The intrigue and the plot thickened as the end drew near.

Kristen and Slade met when her foster sister was murdered and Slade was the detective working the case. Figuring out who murdered Kari was a big job because she had been writing a series of pieces exposing corruption of politicians and businessmen. So she had a long list of people wanting to get rid of her.

I liked the way this story unfolded so much that I just didn't want to stop reading. The characters were well developed and not run of the mill type people. Kristen was an expert in reading body language and had a PHD in psychology. She'd come a long way from her childhood with a drug addict, whore for a mother then in foster care. Slade was a very good detective with nothing to hide. Being part Native American we got a look at that culture.

I was glad to see that there wasn't much paranormal activity in this story since that's not really my thing. It comes into the plot during the last quarter, flowing nicely with the story. The only thing I had a problem with in this book was that I don't like cliffhangers and this left many things unfinished.

Please note that I received a complementary copy from the author but I'm reviewing it on my own as I do with everything I read.

Would be a much better book if things it didn't' seem to drag on and were resolved at the end.

I voluntarily reviewed a complementary copy from the publisher.

This was a really good book and I was very surprised at that. Well, it was very good and then got a little meh near the end. The writing was still good, I just got the urge to smack the woman near the end.

She just got so dense, I know that if it was me, I’d be doing what the detective wanted after the first close call, not trying to go home where the bad people could get you easier.

This book was just really good but I did forget that this was supposed to be about vampires because there was no mention of vampires until 77% in. It just seemed like a really good mystery until I remembered the title.

The vampires here are the closest to the Carpathian species in Christine Feehan’s books but, a little more intense and the can apparently go into the sun and repress what they are?

I do kind of wish more was focused on that and the species of the vampire. All-in-all, this is a good book and would actually be a good choice for readers who aren’t that big into vampires.

Thank you for reading my review.

This book begins as an outstanding thriller as a woman pairs up with a mixed race police inspector to find her foster sister's murderer. The characters are described in depth, and the sparks fly between the pair as they track down clues, and then become targets of the murderer themselves. For 80% of the book, the suspense is palpable, and the danger is intense. Then it turns weird! An outstanding murder mystery becomes more puzzling as the action carries into the supernatural and some of the characters have their special powers unveiled. The cliff-hanger ending means I have to find and read the next book in the series. The quality of writing is outstanding, and that means it is a great book.

Slow in starting and slightly disjointed at the beginning you soon lose your self in the life of Kristin and Slade.
The author built the characters slowly so we got to know and understand them, as they got to know each other.
The story was interesting, staring with a murder and the investigation. Car chases and attempted murder.
It made me wonder where were the vampires???
This is not a typical vampire book and it ties in the McKinnon's.
The sexual tension and desire is high but a small part of a epic start to a brand new adventure which I think will be quite addictive.
I would definitely recommend especially if you like to be kept guessing, it has that paranormal touch and shifter element.
It does have a cliff hanger ending luckily the next book has been published.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed this Advanced Readers Copy I received from the author*

Kristen and Slade bond over her sister's homicide and the mystery of who killed her, what they were after, and just what exactly existed in the world. It started out kinda rough for me in the beginning because of the slow pace (or maybe it was just the writing style) but a lot went on in nearly every paragraph of the book. I also had the impression that the fantasy would happen right away, but we didn't really get involved with all the creatures until like 80% of the book, otherwise it was more like a detective romance.

It wasn't bad, just not for me.

This was more than I expected it to be. It has Vampires in the title for the series, but you wouldn't know that they exist for most of the book. It was nice to read a fantasy novel that starts off far from believing the things that go bump in the night actually exist. It left you waiting for more. The chemistry between the characters built at a steady pace that was believable and kept you on the edge of your seat waiting for something to happen. This was a great read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I received this book to give an honest review.

I started the book and I got half way into it and kept asking myself will there be vampires in it? I mean the title has the word vampires so that does mean soon there will be something paranormal in it correct? Well I got my answer towards the very end, which I found to be weird. Though it does make for a good detective romance if you take out the paranormal at the end.
Any who, we are introduced to Kristen who is the sister to Kari who was murdered. When Slade takes the case we see how both Kristen and Slade fall in love with each other but do not want to act on their feelings. Slade has a job to do and it will be difficult especially since he is to be moving within a month, but he can't let Kristen down. Kristen wants to put her sister to rest, try to find her killer and get back to her normal job. Though it seems that someone will not let that happen and it will stop at nothing to get the answers to what Kari was working on.
From the time Kari was murdered to me is when I felt the action started, it wasn't heavy action but it was enough to keep the story going at a steady pace. It seems that Slade has a special power and it doesn't make him feel good to use it without the person's permission. I thought what his ability was, was pretty neat but creepy. It seems that Kristen will have a power that she may not know about so I am interested to see where that is going to go in the next book.
I would have wanted more background into the council and why Slade was worried about them finding out. Who are they exactly?
