Base Branch #4

Warrior Mine

A silver fox learns new tricks. The Base Branch office in Washington D.C. is so heavily fortified it makes Fort Knox look like a 7-Eleven. After twenty years in covert ops, nothing fazes Commander Vail Tucker. When a lightning bolt of feminine fury crashes into the interrogation room, holds him at gunpoint, and takes over the task with his prisoner, he's more than surprised. She escapes without a trace, but Vail is unable to remain dispassionate. He must know what is so important the beguiling woman would risk her life to find it. Carmen Ruez is deadly and desperate-a combustible combination. Born into the remnants of the Arellano Felix Organization, drugs and violence kept her in a gilded cage-until a twist of fate showed her the roots of their riches, making her yearn for freedom. She works for it. Fights for it. But her brother crosses the line to keep her loyal to the treacherous family she is determined to leave behind. Following instinct, Vail uncovers Carmen's motives and is galvanized by a protective instinct he hadn't known he possessed. Determination and desire force them to work together to defeat those loyal to Carlos Ruez and the AFO. But are those traits enough to make them fight for a future together?

I received this book for an honest review and honestly it is definitely the best series for action, adventure, intrigue, hot and spicy characters (both male and female) and all from an author who gets what a reader wants and needs to keep them flipping pages, grabbing at the next book in line and getting lost in scenario after scenario where no two are the same save for the level of heart pounding action and spice.

This journey took us along with Commander Tucker, who so far has demonstrated the ability to lead by sheer ability and respect, an intensity that all true and powerful leaders have. We get to see what makes this Goliath tick and how a 90 pound 12 year old girl can humble him and turn his sneer into smiles and laughter ... O to be human again and to regain his ability to go by his first name, Vail.
This cutie pie Sophie who really is one endearing character who makes us all smile at her sass and antics, her love of life and innocence which is so contradictory to her true background which her mother, Tucker's kryptonite, Carmen, shielded her from and spent her adult life trying to escape...
Excerpt: “A loving mother and the beautiful person she’s nurtured in an impossible situation."...
Carmen, who was planning on sacrificing her life to ensure her daughter has a real opportunity to be normal and no stigma to hold her down and eventually through and with Tucker, they regain their humanity and hope in a future, not a slow lonely drift to the end but a true chance at happiness.

We see how life's experiences both good and bad shape our future selves ...
Excerpt: “It’s because we can’t unsee the things we’ve seen, unknow the things we know. We’re scared of what life could give us to lose.” ... and it is only through trust and the ability to grab ahold of our honest desires to embrace what we want for ourselves and loved ones that we can find happiness and in their case a true chance at love.

Funny that Ms Mitcham was able to inject such warmth and fuzziness into this book which is about one of the crustiest and most somber of characters of the earlier novels. You just want to hold onto the end like a nice dream in a cozy comfy bed... you just don't want to break the magic.
Now by no means is this the only scenes and emotions evoked in this book, you are also treated to bombs and blasts and gun fights with vile Cartel thugs and kidnappers. We hold our breath as friends are hurt and the evil never seems to end as wave after wave exposes another layer of garbage to clear out. How this little lady comes up with all this non stop thrilling scenarios is beyond me. Every book has its own theme and does not lack from the last.

Brava yet again I am hooked... Wait I said that before... I am hook, line and sinker head over heels a Base Branch Junkie!!!

This woman knows how to make an entrance and an impression, she also leaves behind some devastation. Coming into this book on the back of the third book I wasn't sure how it would go so I had my fingers crossed. With the words "Commander Tucker is dead" at the end of the last book I thought- "well this can go three ways" either this is Vail's recapping story, he isn't dead or it is about another character investigating his death. Well I am not going to spoil it except to say it is so worth reading. A young girl snatched and then rescued, a bond is formed with rescuer. Getting to know each other, learning from one to the other works both ways. This is in many ways heartwarming, yes there is extreme violence and explicit sexual content but above all there is a building love and trust between these characters that melt your heart. All are crying out for family of the honest truthful and loyal kind, either because of previous loss or because the blond variety just aren't worth having. I found them loveable and easy to like, the young girl adorable. The bond they build is something you can only wish for in your own life. I am loving this series full of action, adventure and suspense. Lots of hot men with strong scruples who when they find their soul mates fall hard and fast, the women are strong mostly independent and as feisty as possible, they can stand their ground with any of the men and fight just as well as they can. Each story is gripping, often edge of your seat reading but also loving in how the team members interact together the support given and how the male/female bond through bad extremes. You do need to read from the first book as the stories often cross over both with characters, countries and storylines. I do not feel they are stand alone and to get the full benefit it is worth the investment.

5 stars. This started at the cliffhanger left in the previous book but it is not necessary to have read it first (but if you haven't why not? Seriously missing out on a brilliant series) Vail Tucker is taken by surprise when someone breaches the Base Branch HQ. The altercation leads him on a path to rescue a defenceless girl and leads to his closed off heart to be once again opened to the possibility of love. Another action packed book with really well developed characters and plotline. Tucker's reaction to Sophie the girl he saves is really endearing and their relationship is great. Her mother Carmen is a really strong character who has born a lot in order to protect her daughter. Highly recommended read

This was another excellent read in the Base Branch series. I love Megan's writing. She has such hunky heroes, and sassy heroines, with complex characteristics. The action and suspense is always full on, it's like watching a movie in my head.
I loved silver fox Vail, and was happy that he found his HEA with Carmen, although her volatile actions did make me wonder at times if they were really suited. But her daughter Sophia was the main link between them, and the scenes between her and Vail were very sweet. Another great read!

Fantastic!!

Loved, loved, loved this one!! Vail Tucker was a machine, caring only for those he was responsible for but a woman and her daughter broke through his shell, the trouble was though, both were trouble! Sophie is fantastic. She's innocent despite being raised in a den of evil. Her mother fought to keep her that way but was faced with feeling something, a lot of something, for a man who really should hate her! Not saying more, don't want to spoil it!! A brilliant story.
