A criminally underappreciated structuralist explanation for the collapse of New Order. In this translated PhD thesis, Masuhara digs through the membership numbers and appointment patterns of Golkar. She shows how the institution evolved from political vessel for the military, rival institution under the Kraton, vessel for the Suharto clan's ambitions, to part of the anti-Suharto consensus that brought down New Order.
A short read with a relatively straightforward argument, but a very, very valuable contribution.
