Jackson Maxwell is keen to write a series of feature stories on evangelist Jacob Michaels and his ministry, with a human interest focus. Instead of profiling the popular preacher, he wants to place him in the perspective of a donor who makes a small but sacrificial gift. Jackson wants to interview Michaels but is continually blocked by Hamilton Jaeger, an influential board member who oversees the ministry's finances.

It soon becomes evident that Jaeger has plans even Michaels does not know about; plans that are political in nature and involve joining with other ministries in a super-hub that is far less about the gospel than it is about power, property and money.

As Jackson closes in on the corruption at the heart of Michaels' evangelistic enterprise and uncovers damaging secrets from Michaels' past, he encounters several enigmatic names that he recognises from his own past.

This is a very powerful book. It deals with Christian ministry and how good intentions can go awry and how corrupting power can be in the wrong hands. The ending is fabulous, but the story is continued in the rest of this series. I am going to try to find the other books.
