Pickles the World Cup Dog and Other Unusual Football Obituaries
Pickles the World Cup Dog is a beautifully designed humorous gift book which offers an eccentric gallery of over 200 football obituaries. This original collection concentrates on the more unusual subjects, from celebrities (Rod Hull, who died while trying to adjust the TV aerial during a football match), monarchs (Henry VIII, owner of the first football boots), literary greats (goalkeeper Albert Camus) and musicians (Elgar, an avid Wolves fan, who wrote the first football 'chant') to God's creatures, including the '66 World Cup hero Pickles the dog, who discovered the stolen trophy under a bush before garroting himself on his own leash in pursuit of the neighbour's tabby.
Pickles the World Cup Dog will be the perfect Christmas present for every football fan.

I actually enjoyed this more than I expected, with unexpected and occasionally weird obituaries, with the football connection tenuous at times, but it is this left field approach that makes it work. Very much a dip in book, especially for the extended visit to the lavatory. I have to say that blaming the death of Peter the budgerigar on Stan Collymore is jolly unfair. His early demise, in my opinion, is down to the buffoon of an owner and his equally buffoonish mate and I am sure that I speak for all budgies on this matter.
