Rate this book
A strong-arm mining company, a boy running from killers, and an attempted kidnapping of his daughter brings Jason Donnelly out from under his Alaska cover to fight the crime family who thought they’d killed him twelve years before in CODE OF THE BUSH. Jason Donnelly thought he was a high level body guard for VIP’s until he found out the people he worked for and guarded were the leaders of the Clemente crime family. Once in, you didn’t get out. Determined to break away he is betrayed by his brother, resulting in his wife’s death from the car bomb meant for him. Taking his four-year-old daughter, Jason escapes back to his native Alaska, adopts his old nickname of Duke, and takes up a gold claim in the bush. Duke realizes his cover has been blown when he learns that the mining company trying to push him out belongs to the Clemente family who are making a move for the Alaska territory. He has two choices – to leave everything and run again or stand and fight. Jason Duke Donnelly makes his choice – he’s done running.

I have been a writer of adventure novels of the Old West. I have now branched out to writing contemporary crime novels with a suspense/mystery base. What I feel makes these unique is that they are set in the modern West and Alaska, as opposed to exotic world and big city settings. They involve average people and local law enforcement agencies.

My writing influence comes from my ancestral roots. Mountain men, voyageurs, pioneers, and explorers make up the branches of my family tree. My paternal grandfather was Blackfoot Indian from Montana. My maternal grandfather was a Minnesota lumberjack, both men were born in the 1800’s.

As a lifelong outdoorsman I have inherited that pioneer blood and followed in the footsteps of both my families. I have experienced life in the Alaska bush, as well as the wilderness of the Rocky and Cascade Mountains, as a working cowboy, guide, horsepacker, hunter, and trapper.
I also spent several years as a Colorado Deputy Sheriff. This experience in the law enforcement field allows me an intimate insight to the system that I weave into my new crime genre stories.
I incorporate all of my experiences into my stories to ingrain them with authenticity and draw the reader into the story by their realism and a personal knowledge of the people and lifestyle involved.

I have near to 500 fiction and non-fiction works published. Included are: 19 novels and short story collections, 70 short stories, and inclusion in 18 anthologies. I am the first 3 time winner of the Will Rogers Medallion Award, in 2008 for Best Western Fiction, and again in 2013 for Best Western Humor, and 2014 for Best Western Novel. Nine of my short stories have earned Reader’s Choice Awards.

Can you give a 20 star? What a book!

This was the best book I've ever read! The people, working with the gold equipment, the stupid bad guys, all of it put into this incredibly good story! In some ways they remind me of the old desert miners who used to share a meal at my grandparents. It was ice tea and a meal no matter what time it was. Those old men stood up for their friends and no one stepped on their toes. Of course that was almost 50 years ago.

A modern western!

Duke Donnelly worked for the mob, but wanted out. They sent him a one way ticket, but killed his wife by mistake. Duke and his daughter hid out in the Alaska bush until the mob came along to push drugs under the cover of gold mining. Folks in the Bush play rough and turned the tables on the mob. An easy, enjoyable read with a HEA ending.

A Great Read!

I can not say enough about the good quality of this book. It is well written. It is very exciting with real-world accounts of potential actions. Once I started the read, I found myself still anxious to read more; even quiet a while after my normal bed time.
I believe that you can't read a few pages without being 'hooked'.
Enjoy !

Top of Line!

This is the second book I've read by Dave P Fisher and if I never read another book by another author again, I would be satisfied! I can't believe that I am only just now, discovering this talented, gifted writer. I am on to his next book; don't hold supper for me!

A great read !
I have read other books written by Dave Fisher , and they are very good reads.
Love the way that friends and some family members have a close bond, and other family members will snuff your life without a thought.
I recommend this book to all readers.

Thanks for a great read!

Again, you have more than met my expectations. I love the friends connection and wish it were so everywhere. But with a government out of control, what can we expect?
