James Lennox Kerr was a Scottish-born traveler and author who wrote children's books under the name of Peter Dawlish. Back Door Guest was his first book published for an adult audience. It tells of his adventures as a hobo in America at the beginning of the Great Depression, and of his developing socialist philosophy as he travels the rails, hitch-hikes, and stays in flop houses.
James Lennox Kerr (1 July 1899 – 11 March 1963) was a Scottish socialist author. As an author he used, in addition to his own name, the pseudonyms "Gavin Douglas" for adult books and "Peter Dawlish" for children's books after 1938.
