A Yellow Wood is a fantastic YA novel! Ring's writing is perfectly paced to keep readers hooked. I planned on taking my time reading the novel, but couldn't stop thinking about the characters and the philosophical ideas the novel explores. I ended up finishing it in a couple days.

Leni is the kind of character you'll love getting to know. She is strong, bright and independent, yet vulnerable after all she has been through. Her interactions with Dr. Jones, the teacher for her Senior Independent Study Thesis, make it clear what an old soul Leni is, while her relationship with her old boyfriend Jay shows she is still a struggling teenager. It's the unexpected connection she makes with grad-student Clarke that brings out her best self. Clarke has "…a foot-tall, green-tinged mohawk and more piercings than a pin cushion." He doesn't look like the ideal guy, but beneath his wild appearance is an amazing guy. The old soul has found her match, but Clarke doesn't quite fit into her expected future.

With a cast of enjoyable characters, refreshingly authentic dialogue, and depth that will make the novel stay with you, A Yellow Wood explores the risks and rewards of taking the unexpected path. I highly recommend it to all high school students as well as adults who enjoy a well-written, profound YA read.

Absolutely moving. I've moved away from YA literature for a while but this story caught and held my attention! In 4 short hours I finished the book! I think it was the maturity of Ring's heroine and her willingness to confront and reflect on her past choices. I absolutely loved Clark and their banter game at the first meeting was a total LOL moment!

Honestly, you wont regret reading this book. I was enchanted.

So I didn't read the description for this book before downloading it and thought it was going to be about mermaids... Boy was I wrong! I really liked this book, it made me have so many emotions and feeling and it was great! I was a little worried about the shortness of the first few chapters but that didn't last long. This book goes from zero to sixty really quick!
