The complete New York Times Bestselling Alpha Billionaire series in one box set. It was only meant to be one night. Evie Johnson was doing her best friend a favor when she agreed to work a bachelor party as a dancer. She hadn't expected to meet a man like Grant Slate. A man so handsome and cocky that she couldn't help but be attracted to him when he asked for a dance. And when he asked her for a private dance, she didn't want to say yes, but she couldn't stop herself. Before she knew it, she was being whisked off to his private mansion and entering his home for one night of passion. Only Evie had no idea what she was getting herself into. Grant Slate was not the man he'd appeared to be at the club. He wanted more from her than one night of passion. He was a man with secrets so deep and dark that Evie was unsure just what she was going to do.
Okay… This story really creeped me out. It started out as the usual poor-girl-meets-rich-man story, but then veered into this Gothic-type mystery/romance (??) story.
Evie is an unemployed college graduate with student loan and credit card debt. She wants to be an investigative journalist. One evening her roommate Hailey, a stripper, begs Evie to fill in on a job for her. Against her better judgment -- and because she’ll get $5000 for the evening -- Evie agrees. Evie’s pretty much out of her element at the job, a bachelor party, and winds up being "rescued" by one of the men, Grant. Again, against her better judgment, she allows herself to be talked into going home with him thinking it’s a one night thing. That night, she’s warned away by Tyler, Grants live-in driver. Tyler mentions that he tried to warn another woman, Eugenie, to no avail. Though strangely drawn to Tyler and a bit wary, Evie dismisses his warnings and stays the night.
What then ensues is this weird mindf**k. Grant and Tyler play some sort of game with the women Grant is able to entice to their home, a game they’ve played many times before. Part of Evie wants to escape their clutches, but part of her is drawn to Tyler and to the mystery of what happened at the house. The investigator wants to solve the mystery. She finds letters Eugenie wrote that hint at good versus evil, being held against her will, being duped, being drugged, etc. Again, Evie’s instinct is to leave, but she doesn’t or isn’t allowed to. Her questions go unanswered. Her attempts at leaving are always pushed away by sex, doublespeak, or her own curiosity about what happened to Eugenie, what games the men are playing, and what they have in store for her if she stays.
I was both repulsed and riveted as the story unfolded. I had to see how it ended. Clues are laid out, making the twists predictable, but I still had to see if it would end as I thought. I was mindf**ked along with Evie. My curiosity kept me reading even though I knew where it was going. It’s like an episode of The Twilight Zone or Night Gallery you watch even though it’s creepy. After it’s over, you wished you hadn’t watched and hope to never see again, but knowing you’d be compelled to watch it again and again. I didn’t want to go to sleep after reading this story fearing I would have a weird, gothic nightmare.
The reason for the two stars is that we never really find out what it’s all about. We get a (creepy!) resolution, but never a full explanation of what took place and why. That is, though clues are given and pieces put into place, we never get the full story behind the game played, Evie’s background, other “players,” etc. I’m torn between wanting more answers and being happy that I’m done with the story.
I really enjoyed this series! I can usually see what's about to play out in a plot a mile away, but not this time. The twists and turns that this series took were an example of great writing. Editing could have been better, but I was willing to over look it because I was so wrapped up in the story. Very enjoyable!!
This book started out on a good note. By the second book it left me with my mouth open and eager to move on to the next book. Now that I have finished the third book, I'm sitting here wondering what did I just read. I had to drop the rating down to a 3 as I was just lost in the last book.
very interesting trilogy, I was very intrigued through it all. Don't like the ending though. I mean I know she was attracted to Tyler, but what is the end result to her. like I said very intriguing just very disappointed at the ending
No stars I couldn't submit unless I picked a rating
So unrealistic. Most fantasy is read because it could possibly be a situation that you would want to be in. I NEVER EVER WANT TO BE HELD AGAINST MY WILL. EVER! This was supreme garbage and it's time wasted.
And not in a good way. This book was just weird, not believable, and just blah sex scenes. I made myself finish reading, to try to figure out where the author was trying to go, but left disappointed with even that. Would not recommend you waste your time
OMG one big confusing roller coster ride the whole book at the beginning I thought it was ok but then got really confusing she kept asking to leave and never did just not for me some good sex Though
What an interesting serial. The push and pull between grant and Tyler was so interesting. I couldn't decide if she made the right decision...interesting concept for a book.
This book was terrible! The lack of a storyline just kept looping with no resolution or extrapolation. I wish I could rate this in (-) stars. I'm so upset that I actually paid money for this series and I lost two hours of my life that I shall never get back!
