Listen To Me Honey

Rate this book
Eighth grader, Amanda Craftton bent to peer pressure. She slipped away from school at lunch time with her friends. They went to the mall to get tattoos. Afterward, one of the friends invites the girls to go home with her to sample a beer. The time got away from them, making them late for math class. The teacher sent them to the principal's office for a tardy slip. The principal smelled beer on the girls' breath and suspended the girls from school for the last six weeks of the term. Amanda's parents don't seem to be able to make Amanda understand what she did was wrong. Her mother, Iris, decides to send Amanda south to Arkansas. She has to live with her grandparents on their farm for the summer in Pleasant Valley without many modern conveniences. Amanda's parents hope the elderly couple's no nonsense ways will teach Amanda a better path to follow. Living with her grandparents, Amanda certainly knows when she goofs, because Grandma Tansy is quick with a lecture that starts “Listen to me, Honey.”

I live with my husband on a central Iowa acreage. Now that I've retired from my CNA job at the local nursing home, I divide my time between writing, enjoying country life, gardening and fishing.

My books, with 12 font print, are reader friendly.I writes a contemporary Amish fiction series set in Iowa, a historical mystery series with a Midwestern Iowa small town flair and Stringbean Hooper westerns. The stories pull readers into the scenes, making it hard for them to put the books down until the end. Each book leaves readers wanting another book in the series to see what happens to the characters next.

After my father had Alzheimer's, my interest in helping caregivers led me to write two books on the subject. My work as a CNA gave her much insight and experience with this disease. I was awarded the 2004 Nurse Aide award from the Iowa Health Care Association and the 2006 Professional Caregiver Award from the North Central Iowa Alzheimer's Association. I've been a volunteer speaker for the Alzheimer's Association and facilitated an Alzheimer's support group for many years.
