Do you believe in vampires? Exposed in this titillating trio of distinctly different stories is the possibility that all around the world at any given time of the night, people are interacting with the undead sometimes unwittingly. Certainly there are those who welcome, even seek out, the immortal, as is the case with Samantha, an LAPD detective who enlists the aid of a bloodsucker from her past to help identify, track down and kill her daughter's murderer in "Dawn". On the flip side, there are those clueless humans like Maddie, a bored and dejected Boston housewife in "Dusk", who has absolutely no idea her talented young dance instructor has had literally centuries in which to hone his craft. And what of Alison, the icy businesswoman from Texas who finds out just a little too late, in "Midnight", that the cowboy who has recently roped her in and so quickens her pulse, doesn't actually have one himself. Three women, three vampires, one night. Think you would know if you met one?

In “Dusk” it is easy to sympathize with Maddie’s situation, and you can’t help but want things to work out for her. However, the story reads like a lesson on the history of dance. The fact that Maddie’s family pretty much ignores her and she would like to start dancing again is the only part of the plot that was relatable and interesting.

In “Dawn” Samantha and Morgan work well together. The climax is a bit of a shock, and the ending leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

When you go sleep and dream about leaving everything in your life and starting a new one what do you think of? Smokin’ Hot Vampire, in the middle of nowhere, on a horse farm…well that is exactly what you get with “Midnight.”

All three of the stories are situations you have probably read or heard about before…with a vampire thrown into the mix. Not really new and exciting, but still a good read.

If I could give Crimson Hours six stars I would. Although the author's style verges on being wordy, once I got past the initial first few pages I was hooked. Essentially we have three tales here about ordinary women who have extraordinary, life-changing encounters with the undead. This is so much more *real* than some of the stock-standard vampire tales out there. Phelan rocks! That's all I can say. Can't wait to read more of her fiction.
