Ms. Ford has been writing professionally for more than twenty years as a journalist, a fiction writer, and a biographer. She began her career as a newspaper reporter and went on to write short stories that have been published in national and international magazines. Many of her stories are included in reference books aimed at teaching writing skills. She is now devoting her time to middle grade fiction and nonfiction.
Well written and most informative. I enjoyed the transitions between anecdotes, quotes, and short abstracts about Dr. Seuss' famed books. Between being a perfectionist and a very hard working man he wrote wonderful books that help children to learn reading to this day. Last, but not least, I appreciate his later books with a morale because they are still significant.
Carin T. Ford did an amazing job with writing the biography over Dr. Seuss. The way he had the book ordered was very organized and easy to follow. I've learned a lot of unknown facts about Dr. Seuss that were told in this book. Though some major events were not told in book and I understand why, as in the real reason Helen, his first wife died, other than that event you get to know about Dr. Seuss life on a good level. Carin T. Ford puts a lot of facts about his life and how he got to the point of writing children books even if at first he did not succeed. Another thing I liked about this book was how he managed to throw in some quotes and dialogue of Dr.Seuss himself.
This is an overall great biography for children to read. The story line is broken down beautifully for the children o understand. The incorporation of photos throughout the story helps tell the story of Dr. Seuss' life, as well. I like how the author chose to layout his life by referencing events happening in that time and making them the titles of the subsections. This allows readers to better connect with the time period as well as his life because they can begin to see just exactly what was going on during that time period.
