Origins of Consciousness: How the Search to Understand the Nature of Consciousness is Leading to a New View of Reality

Rate this book
In recent years science and philosophy have seen a resurgence of open-mindedness toward deeper views of consciousness. This book explores ideas and evidence now changing the way scientists and philosophers approach the place of consciousness in the universe. From the frontiers of modern physics and cosmology to controversial experiments exploring telepathy and mind-matter interaction, the emerging view promises to change how we understand our place in the universe, our relationship to other life, and the nature of reality itself.

I wanted to challenge myself and my past beliefs.

Diving into my own thoughts and consciousness has been something scary and exciting all at the same time. I come from a Catholic upbringing but have challenged myself to ask why I believe what I have been told. It was hard at first when I started thinking this way a few years back but the more books I read and the more questions I ask, the places I visit, has really opened my mind to possibilities.

While this book makes me want to dive deeper into physics, quantum physics and other subjects that are more way more advanced, who’s to say I won’t one day understand just a little bit of it and that might open a entire new avenue in my brain.

Questioning things is scary at first. The possibility that we are all connected, even the Earth is something we can’t deny.

Question everything, read everything, be open to everything. Start meditating

Origins of Consciousness is an anthology of the primacy of consciousness stance, which is gaining an ever increasing support in the scientific community and which is a promising candidate to shatter the obsolete and shaking still ruling paradigm of reductive materialism.

Nelson provides ample support for his thesis of intrinsic consciousness, not only in the form of an overwhelming body of experimental evidence, but also by citing an impressive list of proponents from Radin to Tononi, from Planck to Wheeler.

The moral and empathic consequences of this notion in the form of a cooperation driven evolutionary universe and a collective identity reveal a hope giving perspective to deal with the technological acceleration we are presently experiencing.

Wholeheartedly recommended!
