I follow this author on Facebook because of the work she has done researching Mayflower passengers and their forebears in England. She has a great reputation for her scholarship. I thought that this book would help me understand the world of my ancestors. Perhaps it is accurate but I was sickened by the rape that takes place in the beginning. I didn’t need a romanticized story but neither did I need a graphic description of sexual violence. I will not finish the book.

A great job of blending history background and context with the compelling draw of a novel.
