Samothrace, Vol. 5: The Temenos

Rate this book
An open precinct located in the center of the Sanctuary of the Great Gods, the Temenos appears to have been the site of ceremonies performed during the annual Samothracian festival. The present work comprises two parts. Part One contains the text and covers the history of the excavation, the description and reconstruction of the Temenos and its Propylon, the structure and style of the building and its sculptures, and the history of this area of the Sanctuary; it also includes two brief sculptural appendices, an illustrated catalogue of finds, indexes, and 252 text figures. Part Two contains 60 plates, of which seven are restored plans, elevations, and sections of the building and the precinct.
