One thing has always driven Maddie Dalton up the wall—her brother acting too overprotective. After meeting Jake Anders, who makes her heart race, she finds he has the same annoying trait. Yet, she can't help falling in love with him despite that. Of course, she should give him a small reprieve since someone's stalking her. If only she could find the nerve to tell him.

Jake's life is finally back on track, especially after meeting Maddie. When a murder rocks his small town, his life suddenly turns into chaos. The killer doesn't stop at one body either. As he digs deeper into each case, he realizes Maddie is at the center of it all. He only wants to protect her, yet she fights him every step of the way. He'll do anything to keep her safe, including telling her what to do.

*Note: This book can be read as a standalone and ends with a happily ever after. However, if you read the epilogue, it will entice you to read book two, Sunset Darkening.

I’m a USA Today Bestselling Author that loves to write contemporary romance and romantic suspense novels, although I am partial to romantic suspense. I even dabble in paranormal. Honestly, I love anything that has to do with romance. As long as there's a happy ending, I'm a happy camper. And insta-love…yes, please! I love baseball (Go Twins!) and creating awesome crafts. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, working in that field for several years before I became a stay-at-home mom. I have a few more amazing stories in the works. If all romance books were like this, I'd sure read more of them. I'd classify Sunrise Awakening as a mystery/detective with romance. The story was great. The murders and the suspense made me want to read faster. The characters were believable, and likeable.
The protective way Lucas acted with his sister made me giggle especially when Jake (her new boyfriend) reacted the same way.

I am giving it a five despite some pet peeves of mine because I really loved the story. One of them was the names. There were too many starting with the same letter for me. Sometimes I had to go back and make sure I had the right person. For instance, the bakers Timmy and Tom, Detective Jake and his brother Jack, along with another police officer called Jerry. So yeah, a whole lot of similar names for my little brain. Anyway, by the end I knew exactly who they were, so it's really just a preference of mine.

The other thing was a few awkward sentences that got me baffled… There were not enough to prevent me from enjoying the story, but I feel it needed to be mentioned.

Overall, I loved it and I am looking forward to the next installment, which will feature two different characters, one of them being Lucas, whom I already know and love.

Sunrise Awakening is Amanda Siegrist’s debut into the romantic suspense world, and she did a great job, using misdirection and multiple villains to distract me.

The opening is fantastic. I couldn’t help but laugh at myself for being hooked so fast and I must say, I believed every word of it.

Jake, literally, bumped into Maddie, and it wasn’t only the coffee that burned him. He left a definite impression on her too. BUT…

Our killer is pissed, had his eye on her first and was even angrier when they hooked up. Will that put Jake on the killer’s radar too…and her brother, who is very protective and comes to her aid when things begin to really heat up. Good thing Jake and Lucas quickly become friends.

I didn’t see it coming. Amanda Siegrist led me down a path that was so muddied I could not see clearly. She keeps the killer’s identity hidden, pulling me here and there, just like Jake and Maddie’s romance.

I love the push and pull of romantic suspense as danger and terror swirl around the characters. Keeps more than one story going on and creates an sense of anticipation, waiting for evil to rear its ugly head.

Maddie isn’t the only one in danger.

Sunrise Awakening has one of those don’t do it moments…don’t go in the basement, don’t open the door, don’t go outside…

If you do, you just may find yourself in the dark, alone…

I can’t imagine what it would feel like, knowing you are going to be killed….being unable to do anything to help yourself as you wait to die, and the killer lovin’ every minute of it.

The murders are brutal, savage. The killer enjoyed inflicting pain, torturing the victims with fear and terror and the knowledge that their pain increased his pleasure.

Sunrise Awakening by Amanda Siegrist has all the ingredients for a wonderful romantic suspense novel. There’s plenty of mystery, danger and anticipation of what would happen next. I am happy to know it was a debut novel, because if Amanda’s first one is this good, I can only imagine what is to come and I plan on being around to find out

Sunrise Awakening is the first book of the series and can stand alone.

A well weaved plot with a super interesting villain! This book is a little more romance focused than the kind of romantic suspense I usually read, and a little less dark, not that that's a bad thing, its nice to read something a bit different! I enjoyed the characters, they were well developed, and the crime side of the story was also well-developed. It was definitely a guessing game to figure out who the bad guy was, and thats one of my favourite things about reading mysteries!

Sunrise Awakening is an emotionally captivating story that weaves together romance, hope, and self-discovery in a way that truly resonates. The characters are well-developed, and the plot holds an unexpected depth that made it hard to put down.

What I enjoyed most about this book was the relationship development. The chemistry between the protagonists was palpable, and the author does a great job of showing their vulnerabilities and growth. Amanda Siegrist’s writing style is both smooth and engaging, pulling you into the characters' worlds from the very first page.

There were moments in the story that felt deeply personal, and I loved how the author touched on themes of healing and new beginnings. The pacing was well done, keeping the tension at just the right level while allowing the emotional beats to sink in.

Overall, this was a touching story that left me with a sense of warmth and fulfillment. If you're a fan of contemporary romance with a mix of heart and hope, I highly recommend this book.

Pros:

Strong character development
Beautifully written romance
Well-paced, engaging plot

Final Thoughts: Sunrise Awakening is a beautifully written novel that will appeal to fans of contemporary romance and stories of personal growth. It’s the kind of book that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading.
