Hidden deep beneath AREA 13 lies the clandestine headquarters of S.T.A.K.E. - a top secret division of S.H.I.E.L.D. housing aliens, mythical beasts, and all manner of extra-normal entities. Under the command of legendary soldier Dum Dum Dugan, these monsters step out of the shadows and defend the world against super human threats too dangerous for normal men as the All New, All Different Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D.!

The STAKE devision of SHIELD has their own version of the Howling Commandos and some of them certainly do howl. These Howling Commandos are made up of monsters and they fight monsters along with other supernatural threats.
So the Howling Commandos of SHIELD are basically Marvel's version of Hellboy's team, at least as it is in the movies since I never read the comics. Monsters fighting monsters and other supernatural problems. In this issue they go after an idol that transforms people into plant zombies. I was curious to see how this would go, but I'm not impressed. I'm just not overly interested in this type of story especially the fact that everyone except for Dum Dum Dugan and Captain Reyna get locked up after each mission somewhat like the members of Suicide Squad.
A book based around a S.H.I.E.L.D. team composed of horror style monsters, led by Dum Dum Dugan? It sounda like an awesome idea, but on the basis of this first issue, is incompetently handled in a disappointing manner. Shame.
