The story was good, but it really was the illustrations by Charles Greer that made it most enjoyable to me.

This was an enjoyable story of survival of a wildfire in a California canyon community, and of two boys who become friends throught their dogs. The peripheral issue of setting traps for coyotes was interesting too.
