3.25 stars There wasn't anything wrong with this book but it wasn't the best by this author. Having read some amazing books by her increased my expectations and had it been another author I probably would have given it 4 stars. The heroine is a divorced mother of two. While the hero is a widower who lost his mother and wife and has consequently found comfort in his routines he hides behind. When the hero/heroine start working together, their relationship is slow to progress mainly because the heroine's divorce left her with doubts. This book had a slow pace, with a hero who had to overcome his fear of losing someone again. I liked seeing the good friendships and even the cordial relationship heroine had with her ex. A nice read.
Ruth Wind is Barbara Samuel is Barbara O'Neal. With each name change, this awesome author has become more and more skilled at her art. I will probably end up reading every book she's ever written, because I love her writing.
However, this is a very early work, originally published in 1992, and it's apparent. It's more of an old-style romance, hitting all the beats. Esther is divorced with two little boys. She runs a bakery out of her old Victorian house in Colorado. She meets Alexander, a professor at the local college, and sparks fly. But frankly, it's hard to make sparks believable and this was a little less compelling. Alexander is a widower who needs to move past his fear of loss. Esther is zaftig and although she's got her own style and has crafted a good life for herself, she doesn't really believe she's beautiful or slated to find love. Of course, they overcome all hurdles and we have a good HEA, but if you want to read awesome, compelling romance check out anything written recently by Barbara O'Neal, and work backwards chronologically.
My first read by this author. That was enough for me. I read to the end hoping somewhere it would redeem itself but it never did. It was repetitive and obsessed with sex. Can someoone convince me she is a real author?
I probably would have liked this book when I was 16. Definitely a disappointment because her more recent books are terrific. This was a silly predictable romance. Icky.
Really enjoyed this sweet love story of a single mother who's busy taking care of her two boys while she runs a herbal store from her house. She gets along with her ex and has two wonderful friends. She's considered a fixer, but is she willing to put her heart out there again. Then she meets the handsome Professor Alexander Stone who's going along with life after his heart has been broken. Will they find love together.
