"It's time to go to the next level as a nation and as an African-American community. Therefore, we must expose those things that hinder our progress, uncover the weakness of our present assumptions, and embrace the power of our unique character and stunning achievement." You know Reggie White the NFL All-American Hall of Famer. Now meet Reggie White the statesman, community activist, entrepreneur, and uncompromising Christian voice. Like a prophet crying in the wilderness of political and ethical confusion, Reggie's voice rises above the din of the self-seeking and self-aggrandizement that have characterized so many of today's leaders. With the boldness of a true champion, he calls the African-American community and the nation back to the forgotten dreams and broken promises of genuine economic, political, and moral liberty. In Broken Promises, Blinded Creams , Rev. White Broken Promises, Blinded Dreams offers a fresh perspective on the politically explosive issues of education, the void in American black leadership, economic diversity, civil rights, affirmative action, and a wasteland of broken political promises.

Most people know Reggie White, the football player. Reggie had written about that experience in his previous book, "In the Trenches," and said that he didn't feel the need to repeat himself here.

That's a good thing because the Reggie White that you meet here is Pastor Reggie White. Using his experiences from football and in life, this is his effort at addressing the issues the plague the Black community. many of the issues he addressed in 2003, when the book was published, are still unsolved today (2025).

This is also the "if I were to run for political office" Reggie White because he frames several of these problem areas in terms of ideological fixes that are not totally grounded in reality. He gives us his vision of what he would like to see, while conceding that he's not the guy to actually implement the vision. It is in these areas where he begins to stray.

Reggie White was an important leader in the Black community until his untimely passing not long after this book was published. This book was needed at the time he wrote it. Some of the concepts still live on two decades after his passing. Some parts of this book are dated now because of events that have happened since it's publication, but a lot of it is still relevant because it's timeless.

A good read with great insights.
