A native of Abilene, Kansas, Michael J. Brodhead is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Nevada, Reno, and a former historian in the Office of History, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alexandria, Virginia. He received B. A. and M. A. degrees from the University of Kansas, and his Ph. D. degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
