"Normally when I do my final score for an anthology, it is an average score for all of the stories included in the book. There are only a couple of stories that I would call weak in this one so for the book as a whole it has to get full marks in the general rating."

Sacrificial Version by Jeremy Thompson
Horror that embraces the reader!
I was sought to read Thompson's story within this great horror collection, so the first one that I read was Sacrificial Version, and I was not disappointed. Thompson has a way with words that embrace the reader, and invite the reader for more. This story definitely fits well into this collection. I find the calming of the horror the day after, both disturbing, and yet very intriguing. "We dine on roast boarilla, ingesting the flesh of our enemies, while putting our loved ones to rest..." is something that stands out dramatically. This short was wonderfully written, and in aspects, I was rolling my eyes with the narrator (not in a bad way). Now, that's something.

Overall this collection of short horror stories was a fascinating and thrilling read. Most of the stories I give 5 stars and there were only one or two that I would give 3-4 stars. The stories featured in this book were a good length and it makes for perfect bedtime reading. You can easily read one of these stories before bed (and then hope that you don't have nightmares).
A few of the stories that really stick in my mind are '82 Rungs', 'Ellie Hill', 'Sacrificial Version', and 'Cold Harbour'
I plan to go back and read this collection again soon so I enjoy some of these stories all over again. Great job by all of the authors and if you are a horror fan, definitely worth the read.
