Books in this series make fine supplements to textbooks for students taking college humanities courses. They're also good guides for museum-goers and art lovers. Each "Crash Course" book contains hundreds of photos and illustrations, most of them in color. This volume, with approximately 240 illustrations, is a historical survey of architectural achievements throughout history. It encompasses the pyramids and temples of ancient Egypt, Greek temples, the Roman development of the arch, Gothic cathedrals, the Italian Renaissance palazzo, Vertical Gothic masterpieces in England, buildings of the great neo-classical architects including Christopher Wren, the Greek Revival in American design, English classicism and its impact on today's postmodern architecture, and twentieth-century innovators including Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, and others.
A good beginners guide to Architectural eras and styles, but lacking in reference photos for many of the examples and buildings discussed. In order to fill this gap I had google open while reading, but nonetheless a great starting point for those wanting a starting point to learn about Architecture.
