I read this many years ago and remembered this poignant and warm story when I found myself recently divorced. I tracked it down through half.com and read it with many more years of hard knocks and the wisdom one gains in that process. It was interesting to see how it struck me in so many different lights given my current situation as opposed to the never-been-married phase of my life when I first read it.
I did not like a few of the turns the story took, but it was nonetheless very effective.
