Green Bay has always been a city with a fierce sense of tradition complemented by a friendly atmosphere. Those qualities seem to attract not only living visitors but also spirits of the dead. Tour the city's haunted past with Tim Freiss as he follows the trail of the tragic, the inexplicable and the just plain spooky. From the desecration of the father of Wisconsin's burial spot to the winery that was a stop on the Underground Railroad to the nightclub haunted by a bullet-riddled love triangle, Haunted Green Bay stirs up the kind of history that keeps us awake a little bit longer once the lights are out.
Weak writing style, spends 90% of each chapter talking about the history of the location and only talks a little about the ghosts...interesting read for locals, but overall lame
I really enjoyed this book because, having lived in Green Bay, and having my third child at Bellin Hospital, I was very familiar with the various places mentioned. The street names alone brought back fond memories. Oh, yes, I experienced my own haunting while living there.
It has great stories and history of the Green Bay area. I actually have been to a few of the places mentioned in the book. It would be fun to visit again now knowing the history and hauntings of the locations.
The non-spiritual history of Green Bay is fascinating however the editing makes this hard to read at times and the haunted parts of the book are not what you get from other Haunted America books, mostly anecdotal
I got this from the library after taking Mr. Friess’ ghost tour of Green Bay with friends. Mr. Friess is very knowledgeable about Green Bay history and very passionate about his subject.
This is a great history book of Green Bay that also contains a lot of the reasons for paranormal activity within the area. One must understand the background information first, because the reason(s) could corroborate witnesses assertions. The stories are edited well, are quite descriptive and just needed a little more excitement factor in the telling of the stories. That said it's a solid work to be proud of, full of information all new to me not having had much experience in town.
A quick, easy read - and I loved it, especially since most of the places it talks about that are haunted are places I am familiar with, including one of my favorite restaurants in GB!!!
This was a quick, easy read with some interesting history about Green Bay. I would have liked a little more information than was provided, though. A good book for October!
