After reading the children's book HER RIGHT FOOT by David Eggers, I picked up this book mentioned in the bibliography. Remembering the work and fanfare of this project, I was amazed by just how much I didn't know. Be aware that it gets a little dry at first as they wade through the politics of deciding what to do and how to do it. The photographs are incredible as you are walked through the past history of the statue, its journey to America and its placement on Bedloe's Island. The restoration was much more complicated than I imagined as I did not realize just how bad a shape the statue was in after 100 years. Maybe the details will not be that impressive to everyone, but I loved the reasoning and science behind the choices that were made to restore the statue. Now I want to return to see it again, making sure that I look for that right foot.
