"When leaders fail to confront conflict, they become the 'biggest elephant' in the room."
In a survey of more than 4,000 CEOs, executives, and managers, more than 90 percent admitted they were uncomfortable confronting or engaging in conflict.
Yet leaders must realize that every conflict presents an opportunity to reach higher levels of performance. In The Elephant in the Boardroom , award-winning leadership psychologist Edgar Papke explores the unique and challenging relationship that leaders have with conflict, and offers the know-how needed to use conflict as the engine of innovation and creativity. As a result, you will learn how to act courageously and be better equipped to lead and win in today's complex and turbulent world.
I really like Edgar's approach to confronting conflict written for those in leadership roles, though you could apply this if you weren't in a leadership role. I think for the most part, the tools and techniques Edgar offers for confronting conflict and using it to your advantage seem a little obvious to me. Maybe it's the pointing it outright for readers that make it such a successful book. I have to admit, I was hoping for something a little outside the box...
"When leaders fail to confront conflict, they become the 'biggest elephant' in the room." - Edgar Papke, The Elephant in the Boardroom
Inspires to confront conflict rather than evade. However the book, while giving theory on conflicts, fails to give an energetic action plan for the readers
Great book. full of insights and looks at a conflict from a positive perspective. it provides actionable steps to be a thought leader during a conflict.
