23 booksAn alumnus of Aberystwyth University, Evans worked at the National Library of Wales before being employed as a school teacher, later becoming Head of the Welsh Department at Ysgol Gyfun Dyffryn Aman.
He edited the anthology, Cerddi Diweddar Cymru, in 1962 and published the Welsh dictionaries Y Geiriadur Newydd in 1953 and Y Geiriadur Bach in 1959, as well as Llwybrau'r Iaith in 1961.
Among his other works were Cymraeg Heddiw (four volumes between 1965-1969), Sgyrsiau Cymraeg Byw in 1966, Rhodio gyda'r Gymraeg in 1978, Y Mabinogi Heddiw in 1979, Geiriadur Lluniau y Plant in 1980 and Sylfeini'r Gymraeg in 1981.
In 1981 he published the dictionary Y Geiriadur Cymraeg Cyfoes.
His dictionary, Y Geiriadur Mawr has been reprinted 25 times since its original publication in 1958.
