Dr. John Hart's "Answers to the Most Important Questions About the End Times" is a scholarly unpacking of material we struggle and labor through, taking us upstream to a better understanding. He doesn’t waste time entertaining consequential curiosities from the text, such as: when will it happen, what living persons today might be the false prophet or anti-christ, who will be the 'two witnesses' and so on. Here, he delivers a successful exegesis on tough questions about a difficult topic.
I ran a quick background check on Dr. Hart and found some of his credits include a teaching position at the Moody Bible Institute, as well as, academic training with Dallas and Grace Theological Seminaries. These alone adds an assurance that the material will be handled responsibly and give the book some good fighting weight. I began to read, feeling like I was in good hands.
In the book, he reveals how the bible is rife with prophecy in books like Jeremiah, Matthew and Thessalonians and not just located in the two books of Daniel and Revelations. He explains how prophecy is behind the motivation of a good percentage of biblical commands. We learn how prophecy affects and motivates Christian behavior, as well as, their treatment of others. Dr. Hart constructs both an outline of end time events and guidelines we can use when reviewing/studying the Book of Revelations, via principles of interpretation.
As someone familiar with the teachings of the end times, I came across a few interesting discoveries: such as, what Bozrah will mean to the Jewish people, the 75 days before the millennium, and certain characteristics of the millennium. I appreciated how the author doesn't subscribe to (nor promotes) interpretations of popular Christian trends. Instead, he untangles the knot that some of these scriptures have been left in, by a few prominent Christian figures.
In the end, I felt he maintained my fascination with the end times, while clarifying certain foundational blocks that bolsters a Christian's common body of knowledge about the future of our race.

Right before the account of the second coming of Christ in Revelation, the following words are given to the apostle John to write: "For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus" (Revelation 19:10). Let me reinstate the verse this way. "The very heart and purpose of prophecy is to point to who Jesus really is, "Prophecy demonstrates that Jesus is the most significant, most powerful, most worthy person in the universe.

It is difficult to rate a book on the end times since there are several beliefs such as when the rapture will occur, the 1000 year reign, and depending on where you stand on those beliefs will determine how you rate this book. For me, the author did well in how he presented the book of Revelation and tied it to other prophetic books of the bible. My own background, I have read several books and have done several studies such as Bible Study Fellowship and Kay Arthur which I highly recommend. The book of Revelation is to encourage and warn of what is to come and the purpose of the Kingdom of God.

With some difficult passages to understand, the author takes the text with the context and makes the prophecy make sense. Such as the Apostle Paul's prophecy on the woman and the child was snatched away. By taking that word snatched and tying it to 1 Thessalonians 4:17, the body of Christ is the church and refers to the rapture.

Another word is the word Babylon and the destruction of the city. At the time that the prophecy was written, Rome was a code name for Babylon. So to the least, it has an interesting turn and urges the reader to further study.

If you are a little wary of getting into a study of Revelation, I would encourage you to give this book a try. It walks with the reader and has scripture revealing scripture. Such as it should.

A Special Thank You to Bethany House and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

This was a book that I was very eager to get my hands on as I’ve gone to Bible Studies on and off with some people who are very into the book of Revelation and trying to interpret today’s world as nearing the end times. Having listened to a few audiobooks of the Left Behind series, and knowing Christians with all sorts of conflicting views on how the book of Revelation should be interpreted, I was ready to dive into this one. After all, Dr. John Hart attended the Dallas Theological Seminary and teaches as the Moody Bible Institute. I’d say his interpretations can at least carry some weight for consideration.

I’ve read through Revelation twice in my five years as a Christian. The same with Isaiah and I’ve been through Daniel a few times more than that. I have a fairly good foundation in Scripture that I was bringing to the table before opening this book, but all from a casual reader standpoint. This review will, therefore, not dissect or dispute the information that was presented, but rather be about how things were presented and other aspects.

I loved how the book was broken into twelve chapters, each one answering a question about a different topic regarding the end times, such as what is the rapture, what nations will be in power during the end times, and what is the second coming of Jesus? While not all of these questions were burning questions for me, they all had clear value and some of the early questions helped build upon the information needed to understand a later topic. It was structured quite well, and each chapter ranged from ten to twenty pages in length, enough to approach it devotional-style and read a chapter a day for pacing purposes.

There is a lot of Scripture referenced throughout the book, and many times Dr. Hart provides context for the passages, whether it is the events or phrases surrounding the Scripture quoted or else delving into historical or cultural background necessary to gain a better understanding. All of this is structured to be friendly for both the person who has done a lot of study on Revelation as well as for those who are newer to the study of the end times. That is, I believe, one of the strengths of this book. Dr. Hart presents the information in a way that is neither watered-down nor overly dense and so it holds that appeal across a broad spectrum of readership. While it would have been nice to have seen more alternative beliefs explored in this book, that isn’t really what this sets out to accomplish. To have exhausted all possibilities on even one or two questions would have swelled this book’s length and made it less reader-friendly.

At under 200 pages, this book is a perfect addition to every Christian’s bookshelf and is likely to be something that is revisited many times over the years. It would also serve as an excellent small group study, allowing time to not only read through the chapter but really dig in as a group and do more digging into the passages and references mentioned throughout. I can see this being a great fit for many people, from lifelong Christians to new believers. Even if you encounter areas where his conclusions don’t quite line up to your own, he at least provides enough background as to why or how he reached that conclusion to make it a worthwhile read.

As the Bible begins to talk about the end of times, questions begin to arise in the most devout Christians. What is the Second Coming? Who is the Antichrist? Are there signs that we are there?

Each of these questions have been answered in many different ways over my life, however, I found the answers in Dr. John Hart's book to be straight forward and easy to understand, The book itself is not a large tome, which helps the reader see that the answers will be concise.

Prophesies have been a part of our history from the beginning of time, so it is not surprising to see that they are a part of the end of time. It is easier to look back and see how the prophesies have been true, but there is always that little doubt about the ones of the future. I found Dr. Hart's book to be enlightening in many different ways, I found that most of his theories aligned with my own.

This is a fascinating book and could give a different light on end times to those who are fearful or full of questions.

Why I Choose this Book:

I haven't read very much about the end times, so I was pretty curious to learn more about it from people who have studied the matter extensively.

What I Thought About this Book:

Unfortunately it wasn't really my style. Now this is going to sound quite lame, but the fact is, I like stories. I like being able to relate to people. Don't get wrong, nonfiction books are great - but I don't feel a draw toward a book when it's just fact after fact. I literally don't know a single thing about the author from reading the book (except that he's obviously studied the end times). I am able to engage in a book much better when they illustrate points by telling short stories that are true. Since we're studying the end times though, I can see how that didn't exactly fit into the picture. (All that to say, you'll probably like the book, so you should check it out.)

I did learn stuff from reading the book though, and although I didn't agree on 100% of his interpretations, it was encouraging to see how often he quoted or referenced the Bible. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of references, so yay for authors who really take the Bible as the authority.

The book discusses questions like "Who is the 'False Prophet'?" "What is the Role of Israel in the End Times?" "What Nations Will be in Power in the End Times?" and many other similar ones. There were some explanations that didn't make a ton of sense to me, but I have a feeling that if I would study the matter more throughly, then they would.

Conclusion:

Overall it's a pretty good overview of what the end times look like. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but that's only because it wasn't my style.
Rating:

I'm giving Answers to the Most Important Questions about the End Times 3 stars out of 5, and 4 stars out of 10.

My Review:

Many end times strategist will tell you that we are all doomed and there is no hope and they are right to a certain extent. The only hope we have is that hope that is found in Christ Jesus and Him alone. Dr. John Hart addresses many common concerns that you or others you encounter may have about the end times. Based on scripture and some of the author's own commentary you are invited to decide for yourselves the weight and magnitude of the subject as well as how we as believers fit into God's master plan.

The author believes in the Pre Tribulation theory as do many and most of his commentary comes from this way of thinking. If you are not in agreement this may not be the book for you but I did find most of his research to align with my beliefs. He is very well versed and researched and provided a very interesting read on the end times. His answers are concise and easy to understand. So I really think that new believers would enjoy this book because of the ease of explanations from the author.

The end times is a subject that interests a lot of people, even non-Christians. There have been many books written on the subject, but I think this is one that will interest a lot of people more than the usual.

One main reason is the format. Each chapter asks a question which the author then answers according to his knowledge and opinions. He covers the rapture, the anti-Christ, what the tribulation is, and if we will go through it..... among others. There are twelve chapters in all, and each chapter is a different question that Hart answers.

The author knows his stuff, and did a lot of study and research - that comes through throughout the book. He also writes it in an easy to read manner, and I never felt bogged down or bored as I read the book.

Not everyone will agree with the entirety of the book, as there are a lot of differing opinions on the end times, but this is a very helpful book for those who have questions and want to understand the end times better.

I requested the Answers to the Most Important Questions About the End Times in hopes of finding a book that would give me a better understanding of a topic that can be confusing. Dr. John Hart does a good job laying a foundation with scripture plus a timeline of events that lead up to and happen after the rapture. The timeline is not one that is set in stone, but rather a guideline for a better understanding of possible events. He also does a good job giving definitions of terminology as well as a breakdown of the happenings in the book of Revelation. If you have questions about the end times and would like some basic information as well scripture references, this is a good place to start. I am not endorsing that everything on the book is gospel, because I am not an expert on the topic, but I do believe Dr. Hart has made a great effort to understand these biblical principles. I received this book from Bethany House in exchange for a fair review.

When I saw this book listed on Net Galley ... I really wanted to read it and was very glad when my request was approved.

Bible is one of the best and reliable companion and guide for Christians ... there are times when we have doubts and search for answers on if we have understood something right .. One of the most confusing, intriguing, mysterious and fearful topics is Christ's second coming.

We all have our doubts, views, questions and fears ... In this book, Dr. John Hart strives to address key questions regarding Christ's second coming, Antichrist, etc. His answers are brief and to the point ... though I don't believe in Pre-Tribulation like the author ... few concepts are explained well.

It is a good reference guide for those seeking answers to questions regarding end time.

I've read several books about the end times that contain so many different views, that I'm really not sure what is going to happen. I do, however, like the way this author did his best to base his book on what the Bible says. I could fact check as I read this book.

An interesting point he makes is that he feels the Left Behind series of books is actually close to what he feels will happen. While there are things in that series--such as clothing left behind when people vanish that he says can't actually be proven by the Bible--he still says the books are fairly accurate. having read the series years ago, And looking forward to each new book as it came out, I found that interesting.

Dr. John hart has done a very thorough job of covering the Revelation, and it's definitely a book that would benefit everyone to read.
