The cause of much of this guessing is doubtless due to the fact that it requires no small amount of figuring to make even an approximate determination of the sizes of the wire. It is to diminish this work that the author has devised the accompanying charts, by means of which all such determinations ate made at a glance, more readily even than if the values were looked up in tables (if such tables existed), which would necessarily have to be very bulky and cumbersome, in order to cover such a wide range as that required for the general practice.
