The term Mathematics, as used by the ancients, em braced every known Science and was also applicable to all other branches of Knowledge. Subsequently, it was restricted to those more difficult subjects which require continuous attention, severe study, patient investigation and exact reasoning; and such subjects were called Disciplinal, or Mathematical.
